Girls’ Brigade Get Moving – 14 Day Challenge

February 7, 2021

As the Emma Cameron Foundation is a special charity to Torrance Girls’ Brigade, we do like to raise funds for the ECF each year and give the display collection.

Recognising the benefits of exercise especially in lockdown, we have set the girls and leaders a challenge to be active for 14 days and their parents are welcome to donate to the ECF in recognition of this via the JustGiving page below.

Being active can be anything which gets us moving like a cycle, walk or indoor exercise class.

Anyone is very welcome to join us in this challenge, either with the 14 day activity or you could give to the ECF in recognition of the girls efforts! Many thanks, the GB leaders.

Fish ‘n Chips in February

February 7, 2021

We are in the final month of our fish and chip deliveries and while the weather has been wild this week a little lightness is creeping in to the evening sky, Spring is on its way.

We continue to be amazed by the joy a simple fish supper brings and by your generosity in supporting this wee outreach activity. God has done wonderful things with your donations of a wee bit of fish and a couple of tatties.

A big thank you too to our deliverers, they turn out in all weathers and hurry hot suppers right across our village. A superb team.

We have enough money now to see us to the end of the month so don’t need any more donations but if you have been blessed by giving the gift of food, the food banks in Springburn and Kirkintilloch still need support.

Thanks again to all, we’ll let you know our grand total of suppers delivered at the end of the month.

Dementia Friendly Concert

January 26, 2021

In partnership with Celtic Connections 2021

The benefits of music in unlocking memories, reducing stress and anxiety while also helping maintain speech and language, are increasingly recognised. Please join us for a relaxed afternoon performance by Catherine Tinney & Luc McNally recorded in Tramway as part of Celtic Connections 2021.

As you will be aware, it’s difficult to make online events dementia friendly, but both performances are relaxed sets that last around 30-40 mins and give people a taste of the festival.

Befriending and pastoral care

January 26, 2021

We are encouraged to look out for one another, and our neighbours, at this difficult time. The support of the visiting friends and pastoral teams remains very much available (by telephone); anyone in the community who would benefit practical help (e.g., with shopping), a friendly phone call, or is finding things difficult can call or be referred to Dorothy Beaton or Marion Murray on 07788 797238 in the first instance.

Fish and Chips (and sausages, pies and pizza)

January 26, 2021

Praise God we have now delivered over 100 suppers across the village and hope to continue for the next few weeks. We have had lots of lovely messages of thanks and have been blessed with new friendships that our pastoral team will be maintaining.

This week we have also linked with Torrance Primary School and will be delivering suppers to families that they think would benefit. It will be great to give them the gift of a nice hot supper and a bit of encouragement at this time.

If you know of someone who would benefit please let Marion know or if you would like to donate a fish supper just pop £5 in an envelope and put it through our doors: contact for Marion and Alison’s address. Thank you all once again. God bless, Marion and Alison

Fish ‘n Chips

January 19, 2021

What a joy to have delivered over 50 fish suppers around our village on the run up to Christmas and an appearance in The Herald topped it all off on Christmas Eve. But it doesn’t stop there. New names are being added all the time and with your generous donations and a fantastic team of delivery people we are able to continue at least until the end of January and hopefully through February too.

Alongside each Fish Supper comes a phone call and chat, a wee written message from the church and a friendly face and ‘how are you doing?’ as the suppers are handed over.

With the new lockdown measures in place, possibly for some time to come, it is even more important that we reach out and connect with each other. Loving human contact is vital for us and no one in our village should feel lonely. God has provided so generously and graciously for each one of us, this small act is one way of sharing His love and the hope we have in Him. If you know of someone who would benefit please let Marion know at
