Tearfund Scotland – Could you feed a family from your fridge?

May 14, 2021

More than 40 million people are now facing a hunger crisis in countries like South Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are no food banks or furlough schemes in the vulnerable communities where we and our partner organisations are working. Many families can only afford one meal a day, if that….. but here’s an opportunity to help: Fridge Twinning. Our friends at Toilet Twinning have just launched a new campaign to provide emergency food and cash vouchers. They are also providing training and support for small businesses – helping people find new ways to earn a living so they’re more resilient to future shocks. For more information, and to twin your fridge, please visit the Fridge Twinning website today

Girls’ Brigade Get Moving – 14 Day Challenge

February 7, 2021

As the Emma Cameron Foundation is a special charity to Torrance Girls’ Brigade, we do like to raise funds for the ECF each year and give the display collection.

Recognising the benefits of exercise especially in lockdown, we have set the girls and leaders a challenge to be active for 14 days and their parents are welcome to donate to the ECF in recognition of this via the JustGiving page below.

Being active can be anything which gets us moving like a cycle, walk or indoor exercise class.

Anyone is very welcome to join us in this challenge, either with the 14 day activity or you could give to the ECF in recognition of the girls efforts! Many thanks, the GB leaders. https://www.justgiving.com/emmacameronfoundation

Poppy Scotland Appeal 2020

October 27, 2020

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, Poppy Scotland have made some changes to the way they are fundraising this year while still doing their best to ensure that we are all able to wear remembrance poppies. Therefore, for the first time, all donations in Torrance will be cashless.  A Torrance Poppy Appeal JustGiving page has been set up and can be accessed through the following link: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ao-torrance

We would like to get this out to as many people as possible in the village so if you use any of the village social media sites, I would appreciate it if you would post the details or just share with friends and family.  Poppies will be available in the shops and can be collected there.  This year the boxes will have QR and NFC code stickers on them, so as an alternative to JustGiving, anyone wishing to, can donate through their smartphone by scanning the code and following the instructions.

While I completely understand that this is not ideal for a lot of the community, it’s really the only way we can continue with a village collection this year in a safe and manageable way. Thank you, Dorothy McCarthy.

JTS Fair and Fine Food – Help our Producers fight Covid-19

June 9, 2020

Eswatini and KASFA have now each received their first payments from donations provided by JTS supporters through the Total Giving Page.

A spokeswoman and a female farmer from KASFA have asked us to “extend our warm appreciation to JTS and its partners for supporting KASFA with funds to help us purchase Personal Protective Equipment.  The equipment will be given to four rural health centres near where the farmers live.  This support signifies the love and care you have for our farmers.”

Eswatini have sent this message: “We would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for the compassion shown and of taking the initiative of assisting the producers during these uncertain times.”

If you are able, please continue to support the small holder farmers by donating to

https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/appeal/JTSsupportingourproducers

Together, we can help the most vulnerable people fight this global pandemic. Let’s give them a chance.

East Dunbartonshire Foodbank

May 12, 2020

Ann Carson, the Foodbank Coordinator, would like to thank the congregation for their support to the Foodbank over the last year. Your donation of 267.15kg of food was especially helpful over the Christmas period.
Cinderella Pantomime – Also, a big thank you to the youngsters of Torrance Church for their very generous donation of over £3000 from the sale of tickets from the pantomime. We really enjoyed the night, the young folk were very professional, and we look forward to the next one!
